Dumber in Alaska
By Michelle DiPoala on Jul 13, 2009 | In Sarah Palin
My favorite coverage of Sarah Palin's resignation happened six days after her loopy Wasilla press conference.
Follow up:
The piece I read was in the Huffington Post, and funny because of the way they spun choice quotes by, of all people, that self-described "redneck" teenager who knocked up the elder Palin daughter. Yep, the hockey-playing Levi Johnston slipped one past the goalie -- oh wait, Palin preaches zero sex education in schools. So there was no goalie on the ice. Abstinence. Right.
I was amazed last year when Levi Johnston went along with the campaign's wild scheme to marry 17-year-old Bristol Palin, and even MORE amazed (but kind of impressed) when this baby daddy ran for the hills instead. Probably zig-zagging the whole way in case Palin was following in one of her wolf-murdering helicopters. Calling off the wedding showed that maybe somebody was thinking things all the way through. Of course they were too young to get married, all questions of personal responsibility aside! Marriage in place of birth control? Wha...? He needs to step up and take care of that baby, but a shotgun wedding in this day and age?
Still, if any figure is "the Kato Kaelin" of the Palin family's story, it's this sperm donor. He was involved for all of six weeks. Peripherally involved though he is, I felt kinda bad for him, assuming his life was complicated by all the swarming press. I felt bad for him, that is, until I read this Huffington Post piece. I learned that not only is young Levi giving interviews, but he's been offered a book deal...and a movie deal. What? WHAT could he possibly know?
The story says, "Johnston says he lived with the Palin family from early December to the second week in January. He claims he heard the governor several times say how nice it would be to take advantage of the lucrative deals that were being offered, including a reality show and a book." He goes on to mouth off about that and some other things that he could be totally making up, and then comes this gem:
"I think the big deal was the book. That was millions of dollars," said Johnston, who has had a strained relationship with the family but now says things have improved.
But now says things have improved. But now says things have improved. Like...was he going to the Palin home for dinner and stuff? I assume BEFORE this interview, right?
Hey Levi, try it now.
